In A Little Boy on Ramree Island, there is a chapter called "Drilling for Oil." It describes exactly what it's like to hand drill for oil on Ramree Island. Some people still drill for oil this way, but it's becoming rare.
During the monsoon season, the structure has a roof to protect the men from the rain.
